China's gross marine product exceeds 9 trillion yuan in 2023

(ECNS) -- China's gross product of marine economy demonstrated a strong recovery with an increase 6 percent year on year to 9.91 trillion yuan ($1.38 trillion) in 2023, accounting for 7.9 percent of the country's GDP, according to data from the Ministry of Natural Resources on Thursday.

The increase is 0.8 percent higher than the growth rate of the national economy. The added value of the marine industry was 4,071.1 billion yuan

with 634.5 billion yuan for marine scientific research and education, and 1,660.6 billion yuan for marine public management services, driving the added value of marine related industries to 3543.5 billion yuan last year.

In 2023, the added value of the marine manufacturing industry reached 2,986.1 billion yuan($4147 billion), an increase of 7.0 percent year on year. The marine engineering equipment manufacturing industry achieved an added value of 87.2 billion yuan, an increase of 5.9 percent over the previous year.

The marine service industry has boosted the national economic growth. The added value of marine services hit 5,896.8 billion yuan, accounting for 4.7 percent of China's GDP and driving 0.3 percent of national economic growth.

China's marine tourism also rebounded. The industry recorded 1,473.5 billion yuan in added value, up 10 percent from the previous year.
